Groundhog day
Groundhog day is a 100 minute comedy film directed by Harold Ramis, it stars Billy Murray and focuses on a man who is forced to live the day over and over again.
Groundhog day was one of those old classics that I never got round to, always kept escaping me, something I decided to get round to correcting.
This is one example of a film I like to throw in with the decent pile, it’s never bad enough to be bad but it’s never good enough to do anything more than scraping close to being good.
The humour delivers just enough and frequently to raise amusement but never has you roaring with laughter, made so by an equally workmans performance by Murray. The concept is high and thankfully avoids what I feared with things becoming too repetitive, it’s again just creative enough to get away with that and the short running time keeps it from overstaying its welcome.
It helps that Murray’s character earns his ending by the films conclusion also.
The film shows the cons/pros of the situation which is also welcome.
As it goes on, while it never slips so far to sink, it skates slightly near to schmaltz, moralistic, preachy, thankfully just about dodging that bullet. Skating towards I’ll use again for this film, also in relation to the bleak moments, they ALMOST strike a chord but fall just short. And while this’ll be one of those time loop stories I’ll give more of a pass to I’m still not sold, it still feels like a one horse/one track pony gimmick conceit to me.
The director was right to leave the cause of the loop up to the viewer and I guess it’s fair for me to interpret Murray’s character was being punished.
I went into Groundhog day with its reputation in mind, hoping it would be a great film, what I got was watchable, decent entertainment at least that needed a bit more bite to it.
Verdict: ***

Rose - The Biggest Baller (Part 1)
Rose Pillar liked to think that she was doing better with her anxiety. The day of her first dance recital saw her throw up all over her tights, and she almost passed out when her friends dared her to jump off the high dive at the pool. When she first learned that her family was moving not just to a new town, but a whole other country? Those were a rough few days, and that was before she even stepped off the plane; her first day at school was so nerve-wracking that she hyperventilated and spent half the day in the nurse’s office. Were it not for the help of her soon-to-be lifelong friends, she had no idea how she would have survived high school. And now, she was feeling that swell of panic all over again as she stood outside her new home for the next four years. Ridgewood College was a small university, especially when compared to some of her friends’ picks, but that was just what Rose wanted. If she had to deal with all those crowds at some of the bigger schools, she very well

Rose - The Biggest Baller (Part 8)
It was only supposed to be a few pounds: just a slightly higher number on the scale and a little more of her when she woke up in the morning. That was what Rose told herself day in and day out as she got started on Coach Reese’s bulking plan, but like so many other things in her life, Fumiko and Natasha had other plans. As soon as she finished talking with her coach, Rose found that Fumiko had already looked up several meal plans and diets to best suit her needs while Natasha ordered an extra-large pizza for that night’s movie session. “I really don’t think this is the kind of food I should be having,” the hesitant blonde remarked as she looked over the deluxe pizza. It was a very tempting offer, sporting three different kinds of meat, an assortment of veggies, and an extra layer of cheese, not to mention the stuffed crust. “Coach Reese said I should focus on lean meats and fats like avocados.” “And sure, you can indulge that for most of your meals, but why not have something

The Creature
The creature has no rational or logical reason for being It swims in a murky pool of hopes and delusions Dreaming of a day without intolerance, injustice or suffering The creature knows only to struggle on not knowing why, it strives to survive Clinging desperately to a small spark of light That flickers in the darkness like a distant star It wonders if there is more to this existence Than pain, fear and sorrow The creature longs for a connection a touch of warmth and kindness A glimpse of beauty and joy But it feels so alone so lost and hopeless Meanwhile, out in the distance the mighty storm grows stronger The creature roars and rages within the thunder and lightning The storm threatens to engulf the fragile flame of life The storm shows no mercy no compassion or understanding It is the enemy the destroyer of dreams The storm is reality the harsh and cruel truth The creature does not give up it fights with all its might It seeks a way out of the endless night It
